Their walk had spanned over several generations and crossed a world as mysterious and blinding as an apparition.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">From then on, the history of Europe has been an array of bold inventions, of dreams coming true after seeming all but impossible. It has also been a history of oppression, injustice, war, genocide \u2013 leading up to the latest European war, perhaps the greatest ever fought on this planet, and the absolute horror of the Holocaust.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Europe, as we are facing it over the past years, seems spell-bound into paralysis, leaving no more possibility to greatness. National, short-sighted selfishness, opportunism, double-crossings, open smiles hiding secret enmities, deceptions, suspects, old wars carried further with new means, the new financial tyranny raised as a sole living horizon: all this dispossesses citizens of any understanding of what is really going on, of any possible participation, any transcendence: democracy is increasingly often a mere fa\u00e7ade, behind which multinational entities have for years been at work obeying to no collective control, while a new financial caste \u2013 responding only to its ruthless inner drives \u2013 moves as a plague of locusts leaving behind itself deserts and pain, while the eyes of masses are all staring on the ignoble gestures of other, declining, political castes\u2026<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">And in the meantime, elsewhere in the world, ancient and new giants are rising, often following and adopting the same implosive and futureless dynamics that European powers have, over time, pursued.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">And in the meantime we\u2019re using only a tiny fraction, around 2%, of the surface of a mid-sized planet born around 4.5 billion years ago, rotating around one among billions of gas stars, burning in a secondary branch of one among the billions of galaxies populating the universe.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">During the latest Word War, in the Ventotene prison, Altiero Spinelli and Ernesto Rossi envisioned the cost of the two devastating conflicts, and the several totalitarianisms, recently born in this small continent; they saw a way out, and a new, different beginning, in a free, united, federal Europe. Others before them had dreamed of Europe as a community of peoples in opposition to the oppressive ruling classes of their times: Michelet, Guizot, Mazzini, Cattaneo\u2026 After them, through a series of wide-ranging political acts, men like De Gasperi, Schuman and many others have started making this dream come true.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">How far is Europe as we now see it from what its founders had dreamed of!<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">What could be, in today\u2019s interconnected world, a new place for Europe? What Europe could offer today is not a new installment of its old arrogance, dating back to when it colonized and expropriated huge expanses of land with the pretext of civilization, slaughtering their inhabitants and laying claim on their resources and economies. But neither is it the melancholic, disillusioned wisdom of survivors from a graveyard-continent now confined to a dead track. Europe as we dream it is united and still capable of experimentation, still capable of greatness and vision, still able to beget a new, different possibility of life on this overcrowded, exhausted planet; a new adventure, in a crucial moment of our species, which declared itself to be the most intelligent on Earth and subsequently went on to act as the most obtuse, the most rapacious, the most unrepentant, the most suicidal.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">We cannot keep wallowing in resentment and accusations, while at the same time expecting everything from above, from increasingly self-referential organisms which have proven unable to break out of their own orbit and their dead-end path. We must find the courage to make an autonomous, prefigurative gesture, to send a signal, to show that the peoples of Europe want to break the spell and get moving once again, and play a part in the birth of a new continent.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">After walking from Milan to Naples to stitch up Italy with our own steps, last year, under the title <em>Cammina cammina<\/em> \u2013 and after a long, irradiating journey from every cardinal point in our country to its earthquake-stricken heart in L\u2019Aquila, which took place over the past few months under the title <em>Stella d\u2019Italia<\/em> \u2013 we, <em>Il primo amore<\/em>, a magazine and association, want to offer our small contribution to this dream, proposing a walk from Italy to Strasbourg, seat of the European Parliament, along the pilgrims\u2019 old Via Francigena; we will call it <em>Freccia d\u2019Europa<\/em>. The walk will start in Italy but is open to walkers from all European countries on our path, and from others, even further, converging on our arrow\u2019s head in order to shoot it again.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">We shall start from Mantua; at its doors, a few years back, the embraced skeletons of a young man and woman were found, dating back to prehistory and currently kept in the city\u2019s Archaeological Museum.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">This is where we want to start.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">We want to say Europe began much earlier: before its history, before its terrible wars and genocides. And it can continue after them, and it will, in ways and forms that we now cannot even begin to imagine but in the invention of which we can play a part.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The organization of this new walk will be paralleled by the formulation of ideas and proposals that we shall disseminate as they develop, through our websites. But we also want to be a go-between for the ideas and proposals of other associations and individuals, to share them with as many Italian and European citizens as we will be able to reach. And to make them travel \u2013 through the very movement of our own bodies \u2013 in every public occasion, in every setting institutional or otherwise, that will be willing to welcome and hear us.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">(Traduzione di Vincenzo Latronico)<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">***<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Europa ist ein Schmelztiegel der V\u00f6lker aller Erdenwinkel, der Sprachen, der Geschicke, der Leiden, K\u00e4mpfe und Tr\u00e4ume.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Vor ungef\u00e4hr 500000 Jahren sind einige weibliche und m\u00e4nnliche Vertreter einer nie zuvor gesehen, auf nur zwei Beinen aufgerichteten Art nach einem endlosen Marsch vieler Generationen durch eine Welt, so geheimnisvoll und bet\u00f6rend wie eine Erscheinung, in diesem n\u00f6rdlichen Kontinent angelangt.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Von da an sind in der Geschichte Europas k\u00fchne Erfindungen, eine nach der anderen, im Augenblick vorher noch unm\u00f6gliche Tr\u00e4ume, einer nach dem anderen umgesetzt worden, sind sich aber auch \u00dcbergriffe, Ungerechtigkeiten, Kriege, Genozide bis hin zum letzten, gr\u00f6\u00dften, niemals zuvor auf diesem Planeten gef\u00fchrten Krieg und zum absoluten Horror des Holocaust aufeinander abgefolgt.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Das Europa, was wir es in diesen Jahren vor uns haben, scheint von einem Zauber versteinert, Gr\u00f6\u00dfe in ihm nicht mehr m\u00f6glich zu sein. Kurzsichtige, nationale Egoismen, Opportunismen, doppeltes Spiel, zur Schau gestelltes L\u00e4cheln, hinter dem sich heimliche Feindschaft, T\u00e4uschungsman\u00f6ver, Verdachte, Fortf\u00fchrung alter Kriege mit anderen Mitteln verbergen, die neue Tyrannei \u00f6konomischer Dimension, errichtet allein im Horizont von Leben und Welt, die die B\u00fcrger jeden Verst\u00e4ndnisses dessen, was wirklich vor sich geht, und jeder M\u00f6glichkeit der Teilnahme und der \u00dcberwindung beraubt, eine h\u00e4ufig zur Schau getragene Demokratie, hinter der seit langem jeder M\u00f6glichkeit kollektiver Kontrolle entzogene multinationale Organismen\u00a0 und eine neue allein von internen Dynamiken angetriebene \u00f6konomische Finanzkaste operieren, die sich wie Heuschreckenschw\u00e4rme bewegen und nichts als Verw\u00fcstung und Schmerz hinter sich zur\u00fccklassen, w\u00e4hrend die Augen der Massen auf die unehrenhaften Taten anderer, inzwischen abtretender politischer Kasten gerichtet sind.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">All das w\u00e4hrend in anderen Weltgegenden von alters her kommende und moderne Kolosse im Aufwind stehen, die in vielen F\u00e4llen dieselben von den europ\u00e4ischen M\u00e4chten im Lauf der Zeit verfolgten zukunftslosen, implosiven Logiken durchlaufen und sich zu eigen machen.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">W\u00e4hrend des letzten Weltkriegs haben Altiero Spinelli und Ernesto Rossi aus dem Gef\u00e4ngnis von Vertotene zwei zerst\u00f6rerische Konflikte und die in diesem kleinen Kontinent gewachsenen Totalitarismen bilanzierend als Ausweg und neuen, anderen Anfang auf ein f\u00f6derales, freies und vereinigtes Europa verwiesen. Noch vor ihnen hatten sich andere: Michelet, Guizot, Mazzini, Cattaneo ein Europa der aufbegehrenden V\u00f6lker gegen\u00fcber den erdr\u00fcckenden, damals herrschenden Kasten erdacht und ertr\u00e4umt. Nach ihnen hatten Leute wie De Gasperi, Schuman und viele andere mit einer ganzen Reihe gro\u00df angelegter politischer Handlungen damit begonnen, diesen Traum ins Leben zu \u00fcberf\u00fchren.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Wie anders ist doch das gegenw\u00e4rtige Europa vor uns als das von seinen Begr\u00fcndern Ertr\u00e4umte!<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Welches k\u00f6nnte in der vernetzten Welt von heute die Stellung Europas sein? Was Europa heute geben k\u00f6nnte, ist nicht die Neuauflage in anderen Formen seiner alten Arroganz, als es riesige Territorien kolonisierte und\u00a0 enteignete und ihre alteingesessenen Bewohner unter dem Vorwand, sie zu zivilisieren, abschlachtete und sich ihrer Rohstoffe und Wirtschaftssysteme bem\u00e4chtigte. Doch ebenso wenig die melancholisch desillusionierte Weisheit von \u00dcberlebenden eines Friedhofskontinents, der inzwischen auf dem Abstellgleis ausrollt. Wir tr\u00e4umen von einem vereinten Europa, von einem noch immer zu Gr\u00f6\u00dfe und Vision f\u00e4higen experimentellen Kontinent, in dem sich noch dazu beitragen l\u00e4sst, dass eine neue, andere M\u00f6glichkeit zu leben auf diesem \u00fcberv\u00f6lkerten und ersch\u00f6pften Planeten und ein neues Abenteuer in einem entscheidenden Augenblick f\u00fcr unsere Spezies entstehen, einer Spezies, die sich selber zur kl\u00fcgsten der Welt erkl\u00e4rt hat, sich stattdessen aber als die verstockteste, die gierigste, die unverbesserlichste, die selbstm\u00f6rderischste erweist.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Nur k\u00f6nnen wir uns nicht fortw\u00e4hrend in Groll und Anklage verkapseln und zugleich auf die Dinge von oben warten, von Organen, die h\u00e4ufig um ihre eigene Autorefenzialit\u00e4t kreisen und die nicht in der Lage sind, aus ihrer einzigen Umlaufbahn und der eigenen Sackgasse auszuscheren. Wir m\u00fcssen den Mut aufbringen, um autonom und vorausgreifend zu handeln, um Signale auszusenden, die ank\u00fcndigen, dass die V\u00f6lker Europas den Zauber brechen, sich wieder in Bewegung setzen und zur Entstehung eines neuen Kontinents beitragen wollen.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><em>Il primo amore<\/em>, die Zeitschrift und der Verband, m\u00f6chte nach dem Fu\u00dfmarsch, genannt <em>CamminaCammina<\/em>, im Vorjahr von Mailand nach Neapel, um Italien mit unseren Schritten wieder zusammenzun\u00e4hen, nach dem langen Sternmarsch aus allen Angelpunkten unseres Landes zu seinem erdbebenzerst\u00f6rten Herzen L\u00b4Aquila in den vergangenen Monaten, <em>Stella d\u00b4Italia<\/em> von uns genannt, m\u00f6chte also jetzt seinen kleinen Beitrag zu diesem Traum leisten und einen Fu\u00dfmarsch, Freccia d\u00b4Europa genannt, von Italien nach Stra\u00dfburg, zum Sitz des Europ\u00e4ischen Parlaments, \u00fcber den antiken sog. <em>Frankenweg<\/em> der Pilger vorschlagen. Der Fu\u00dfmarsch wird von Italien ausgehen, doch regen wir an, dass auch andere Fu\u00dfg\u00e4nger aus anderen auf unserem Weg liegenden europ\u00e4ischen oder noch weiter entlegenen L\u00e4ndern teilnehmen, an der Spitze des Pfeils zusammenlaufen, um den Pfeil wieder neu abzuschie\u00dfen.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Abmarsch bei Mantova, weil vor einigen Jahren an seinen Stadttoren die Skelette zweier sich umarmender\u00a0 vorgeschichtlicher Jugendlicher, zur Zeit im Arch\u00e4ologischen Museum Mantova aufbewahrt, gefunden wurden.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Von dort aus wollen wir losmarschieren.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Um zu sagen, dass Europa vorher angefangen hat, vor seiner Geschichte, vor seinen schrecklichen Kriegen und Genoziden. Und dass es auch danach fortbestehen kann, fortbestehen wird, in Weisen und Formen, die wir uns im Augenblick nicht im Entferntesten auszudenken verm\u00f6gen, zu deren Ersinnen wir aber beitragen k\u00f6nnen.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Die Organisation dieses neuen Fu\u00dfmarsches wird Schritt um Schritt mit der Ausarbeitung von Gedanken und Vorschl\u00e4gen vonstatten gehen, die wir nach und nach auf unseren websites bekannt geben werden. Doch m\u00f6chten wir auch gern andere Gedanken und Vorschl\u00e4ge, andere Verb\u00e4nde und Einzelpersonen weitervermitteln, um sie so viel wie m\u00f6glichen uns erreichbaren italienischen und europ\u00e4ischen B\u00fcrgern bekannt zu geben.
